American Mountaineering Center Museum
Located in Golden, Colorado, the Bradford Washburn American Mountaineering Museum opened its doors in February 2008 as America’s first and only museum dedicated to the heroism, technology, culture and spirit of mountaineering.
The 3,500-square-foot museum was formerly the second home of Golden High School and is a joint partnership of the Colorado Mountain Club and the American Alpine Club. It is also home to both partnership participants as well as the Colorado Trail Foundation. The museum includes educational displays, interactive exhibits, breathtaking photos and climbers’ personal stories. From the storied history of the 10th Mountain Division to the daring first ascent of Mt. Everest, learn about mountaineering's exciting history and meet larger-than-life figures and modern-day heroes who have brought the challenge to where it is today. Jump a crevasse, hang out in a port-a-ledge and find your route up Mt. Everest! Join them for fun social events throughout the year, including the popular Thirsty Thursdays!
The American Alpine Club Library is an internationally known resource on alpinism, climbing, and mountain regions and cultures. It was established in 1916 and provides a resource of over 20,000 books and videos devoted to mountaineering and rock climbing, made available to its members.
The museum is opened Monday through Friday from 10 am to at least 4 pm. Saturdays they are opened from 12:00 pm to 5pm. Additionally they offer five different spaces you can rent for meetings to conferences and lectures. The rooms can host between 14 and 350 people depending on the space. They claim to have ample parking and a place to host unforgettable weddings. They also offer a 30 foot indoor climbing wall.
